Redstate to MyDD: Thanks?

This is my first diary, although I've been a reader of this site off and on since the 2004 election.  While there are still great diaries that come out of this site, there have been some increasingly questionable diaries shooting up the Recommended list.

Here are a few right wing sites that have taken notice of MyDD recently:

http://redstate.com/stories/elections/20 08/i_am_not_going_to_say_thank_you_mydd

http://www.instapundit.com/#017166

http://hotair.com/archives/2008/03/30/my dd-watch-out-for-the-evil-gop-doing-some thing-like-this/

Honestly guys and gals, is this really where we want to be as a group?  We've got right wing blogs citing OUR WORK and either wholeheartedly agreeing with it (per the comments) or actually condemning it as too radical and tasteless.  Talk about making news for all the wrong reasons.

Here's another diary (http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/3/20/1420 52/602) that made the Recommended list, and it literally cites a website called "Creeping Sharia" as one of the sources.  The site is incredibly anti-Muslim, and some of the posts on it will make your skin crawl.

"News alert for the Obama's, Reuters, CAIR and all the other Qur'an thumping, hadith reading, paradise seeking, martyr's to be: get used to this crap because until Muslims start embracing a civilized way of life that does not include killing non-believers, beheading, wife beating, multiple wives, inbreeding, destruction of Israel, suicide bombings, and intifada - until then, the resistance to Islam and Muslims will grow."

Anyway, back to the diary that has received all of the attention from Republicans lately.  I truly never thought that I would see a video here of the most terrible day in America's history (at least the most terrible in my lifetime) being used as political propaganda against a fellow Democrat.  Instead of preparing ourselves for the dirty work of GOP 527's, we've got users who are doing the actual legwork for those 527's and using material that makes partisan right wingers blush.  Not only that, our own users are sending these types diaries to the Recommended list.  It has gotten to the point where right wing blogs are citing US, THIS SPECIFIC BLOG as examples of how nasty Democrats are getting.  Please, this kind of nasty stuff has to stop... for the sake of our party and the sake of this site.

Supporters of both candidates need to raise the level of discourse here, because if this type of stuff continues to escalate for either Clinton or Obama, we will be handing the White House to the Republicans in November.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and any comments/suggestions are more than welcome.

"What I have to do, I do, for the good of my party."

AWESOME!

So you WILL support Obama if HRC asks you to during her consolation speech in Denver!

I don't expect you to donate your time or money to Obama, but I am glad that you will do what is good for the party by joining me in opposing John McCain in the GE.

You are the best Universal!

Universal is radical :o)

Ignore them - (none / 0)

they are trying to subvert our discussion - who cares about them?

It's easy to sit in the back of the schoolroom all sprawled out and make comments while earnest students are dukin it out.  Easy.

By the way - (2.00 / 1)

Thanks!  When I said first diary, I really meant first diary ever for any blog... haha.  I was actually pretty nervous writing it.

Re: Redstate to MyDD: Thanks? (2.00 / 3)

I actually saw this on Redstate's front page, then another commenter pointed out the Instapundit blog.  I wasn't suggesting that you take orders from right wing blogs, I was suggesting that you are attempting to destroy a Democrat under the guise of "vetting" him.  Even if you DID think Republican 527's would be crazy enough to run an ad like that, it doesn't mean you should be doing their work for them.

Re: Redstate to MyDD: Thanks? (2.00 / 3)

I would think that having media outlets watching this site would be a reason to NOT distribute political propaganda against a fellow Democrat.  Like I said before, just because you predict that some Republican 527 would be crazy enough to release something as toxic as that video doesn't mean you should do it for them.

Understand your concern (1.75 / 4)

But the major national liberal blogs have mostly been bashing Hillary for the last few months, and this is one of the only blogs remaining where concerns about Obama can be read by a wide readership.  So, yes, we should only use reputable information.  But what is reputable is a matter of debate.  Even Michelle Malkin can be right once in a while.  Before anyone takes exception to that, I recall that in the Webb/Allen Senate race at a crucial juncture late in the campaign she called Allen on a smear his campaign was making about Webb.  (Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.)

And I look at content, not labels.  So I disagree with National Review about 90% of the time, but one of their writers has a very good piece today on what the press should have asked Obama about the Rev. Wright.

I do think it is incumbent upon people to cease attacks and debate on the merits.

You do. Of course, the Republican party (1.50 / 2)

is your party.

Re: Redstate to MyDD: Thanks? (2.00 / 2)

I take it then that you missed Obama's communications director Robert Gibb's work in 2004. The Dean/Osama ad? I think using race or 9/11 as political propaganda against a fellow Democrat is disgraceful, but there is a reason Obama hired Gibbs. And it is one reason I find it very difficult to support Obama.

Re: Redstate to MyDD: Thanks? (none / 0)

I think we can all agree that we wouldn't be in this civil war . . . if it wasn't for Mark Penn.

Penn is finished after this election. HRC should have hired Carville as chief strategist.

Re: Redstate to MyDD: Thanks? (2.00 / 1)

I bet Penn will stick around, unfortunately, and it seems to me that Clinton should have shunted him aside in January. She could have used a strong media strategist at the top, or she should have empowered Wolfson.

Hard to say though, close race with a long way to go.

You're right, I was unfamiliar with the ad you're talking about but I just googled it.  Agreed, he is a bad person for Obama to pick to represent him.

They are from RedState after all. No surprise there.

Fake Democrats.

I'm betting Universal got a boner (1.00 / 4)

watching that 9/11 footage over and over.

I hope you enjoyed watching those people die over and over.

You disgust me - <-- that will get me banned, but a 10 minute hate video by Universal is praised.

Sickening.

by Chimpeach on Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 04:30:04 PM EST

I didn't know that MYDD (2.00 / 1)

has become the door for the right wing talking point.

My have things gotten pretty bad around here.

Re: Redstate to MyDD: Thanks? (2.00 / 0)

lol and?

MyDD blurs the lines between a democrat and a republican blog.

and this only further goes to prove it.

but those GOPers should know their candidate isn't as bulletproof as they would hope

they better teach him the difference between Shi'ites and Sunnis before the GE starts

Absolutely.  He's gotten a freebie on some ridiculous statements recently... my favorite being his "stance" on HIV prevention and condoms.  He knows he took a stance, although he's not sure what it is, but he'll find out what his stance is and let us know.

Re: Redstate to MyDD: Thanks? (2.00 / 2)

I've been harping on this theme for a while.  The conservative blogs seem clearly to be coalescing around supporting Clinton for the nomination.  The pundit/shill blogs have been trafficking in Rezko and Wright memes, and the comments sections of the community blogs generally show a clear preference for Clinton over Obama--strictly in terms of who they think McCain will do better against.

Does this mean that Clinton should not be the nominee?  Of course not; just because conservatives want something doesn't mean it's wrong.  And I think that Clinton could probably beat McCain in the general anyway.  But it's important to know who those guys support, and for what reasons.

My take on it: they're terrified of facing Obama.

They're Just Repaying the Links... (2.00 / 1)

SusanHu, Universal, Larry, and countless other somewhat lesser known MyDD posters have repeatedly linked to the sites you mention, cited right wing sources in print and radio, and even linked to a couple of white supremacist/neo-nazi sites.  It shouldn't be a surprise the right wing is linking back to them, should it?

by Whash on Mon Mar 31, 2008 at 04:52:24 PM EST

Re: They're Just Repaying the Links... (2.00 / 0)

in the end all that will happen is the rest of the progressive blogging community will deny MyDD is really a member.

kinda like how every other site(cept for here actually) I've been too calls Taylor March the Rush Limbaugh of the left.

MyDD will quickly get that reputation also.

and it will happen because no matter what, their are posters who will post anything if it makes Obama look bad.

Re: They're Just Repaying the Links... (none / 0)

I really think that MyDD will balance itself out over the next week.

I was able to start participating the moment I joined, but now people have waiting period of a week.

The pro-HRC slant WILL end soon, since DKOS is plain boring now. WE WILL KUMBAYA in July, and get back to form against McCain!

Re: They're Just Repaying the Links... (2.00 / 1)

"I really think that MyDD will balance itself out over the next week."

I don't even mind that the site tends to have far more pro-Hillary people that contribute, in fact that might be part of the reason I read it more than any other blog.  I like seeing other opinions, and interacting with people that don't necessarily agree with me on everything.

I just want to see an end to the incredibly negative slams that attempt to destroy a potential Democratic nominee using far right wing websites, or spreading nasty propaganda videos under the guise of "vetting" our candidate.

Anyway, thanks for taking the time to comment on my diary!

Re: They're Just Repaying the Links... (none / 0)

Hey, thought I'd sneak in through an old post to ask you something. If we formed a group to get anti-McCain stuff out in the open and up on the rec list, what should we call it? I'm not particularly creative, and apparently we have to have a name.

Even John McCain lusts after teh engels.
